Los Angeles, CA – Hispanic Heritage Month is in full swing with events occurring around the state honoring the work, culture, and contributions of Latinos in the U.S. Gubernatorial candidate John Chiang delivers a keynote speech at the Avance Democratic Club forum on Sunday, September 17.
Avance Democratic Club is an organization focused on increasing Latino voter registration, civic participation, and supporting political leaders furthering the club’s mission. In addition to building a coalition for Latino engagement in Los Angeles County, home to approximately 5 million Latinos, its efforts also include advancing representation at the local, state and federal level.
“Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the immense contributions, heritage and history of Latinos in the U.S. Hispanic and Latino culture is present in our daily lives and has influenced the areas of art, science, music, sports, literature, law, language, politics, cinema and activism,” said Chiang. “I stand in solidarity with our resilient Latino communities during these uncertain times to protect and defend their rights to fair and humane treatment. Regardless of unjust policies, our Latino community has proven time and again that they are capable of incredible persistence in defying odds, breaking stigmas and advancing social justice.”
Chiang has received key endorsements from Latino leaders and organizations such as Speaker of the Assembly Anthony Rendon, Councilmember Jose Huizar, and the Chicano Latino Immigrant Caucus of Los Angeles County.
