John Chiang Receives Three Major Endorsements From Long Beach Officials On the Road Again: Traveling to Long Beach

Long Beach, CA California gubernatorial candidate John Chiang is on the road again as part of a year-long campaign road trip, and will make a stop in Long Beach on Saturday, August 12, to meet with residents, local activists, leaders and community stakeholders. While on this trip he will receive key endorsements from U.S. Representative Alan Lowenthal, former Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster, and Long Beach Councilmember Al Austin.

Chiang’s road trip is inspired by the California road sign shaped like the shovels that the forty-niners brought to California with the mission to unearth a better future for their families. They came from every corner of the earth – to discover the California Dream, one that was built on the foundation of this unique experiment.

On the morning of Saturday, August 12, at 11:30 Chiang will join local Long Beach officials and residents at the steps of the Long Beach Performing Arts Center, 300 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach. Chiang will then receive key endorsements from Rep. Alan Lowenthal (CA-47), former Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster, and Long Beach Councilmember Al Austin.

“We need a candidate who will fight for the interests of working families, jobs and the economy. As a member of the bipartisan Small Business Caucus, I know the importance of job creation, fiscal responsibility, and supporting the growth of small businesses,” said Rep. Alan Lowenthal. “John is pragmatic in his approach to solving fiscal problems as he has demonstrated in his current role as state treasurer. I am proud to support him as California’s next Governor.”

“During my time as mayor we reformed public pensions, cleaned up the Port’s environment, established a budget surplus and transformed the City of Long Beach,” said former Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster. “Responsible leadership requires an unwavering commitment to making tough decisions. John has the dedication, integrity and persistence to lead this state forward. I know he’ll be the champion that California deserves.”

“Treasurer John Chiang was instrumental in creating a successful program that provided funding for the construction of affordable housing in the state. Not only addressing the housing shortage but providing safe homes and setting a stable foundation for our most vulnerable Californians,” said Councilmember Al Austin. “I’m confident, as Governor he will be an advocate for community needs and safer neighborhoods in which everyone can thrive.”

“Long Beach has served as leader in critical community investments and building a better future for all residents,” Chiang said. “These endorsements from my colleagues represent the diverse leadership found in Long Beach who have worked together to address issues important to this community including housing affordability, fiscal responsibility and pension reform. I am grateful for their trust and support in my candidacy to represent the diverse California that we all love.”

After receiving the endorsements Chiang will join the Long Beach Democratic Women at their annual barbecue and then head to Cambodia Town to spend the afternoon with personnel from the United Cambodian Community organization, a non-profit dedicated to providing services to the largest population of Cambodians outside of Cambodia.

Since kicking off his year long road trip on June 6, Chiang has made stops in Boyle Heights, San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, Orange County, Santa Barbara, San Diego, Fresno, Bakersfield, Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda and Silicon Valley.
